U.S.-China Relations: A Way Forward?

Date: Dec 11, 2019
Time: 9:30 am to 11:00 am
Venue: Asia Society New York
In partnership with Asia Society New York

While efforts to de-escalate the trade war continue, a true, comprehensive solution could still be years away. Meanwhile, U.S. sentiment toward China, and vice versa, appears to be declining at an alarming rate - with mutual trust and cooperation deteriorating rapidly. Many who have benefited from a constructive US-China relationship now wonder how the two superpowers can find a way forward.

Taking place just a day after the South China Morning Post hosts their inaugural China Conference: USA in New York City, this gathering will bring together delegates and speakers from the previous day’s event to dive deeper on where the US-China relationship stands beyond the headlines - providing insights on industry and sector opportunities that will shape economic growth and social development in the years to come. Participants will discuss items such as:

- Do the latest trade discussions have a realistic chance of providing meaningful change?
- Does either country have an edge in the tech race? If so, what does ‘winning’ look like in this competition?
- What are the global implications of China’s rapid growth and innovation?
- Do MNC’s still view China as an essential part of their business strategy?
- Are Chinese companies poised to have a larger presence in the global market in the near -future?
- Can China possibly take the lead in tech while depending largely on foreign semiconductor makers?
- Might the global economy separate itself into two systems led by China and the US?
- Could we be heading toward a world where other countries will need to “pick a side”?
- What are the ultimate implications for the global financial system and geopolitics?
